Surgical Technology Admission Information

Welcome, future surgical technologist! Let’s dive into our program’s admission requirements and get you on the path to accomplishing your career goals.

Application periods:
Fall applications: April 1 – June 1.
Spring applications: September 1 – October 20.

How to Apply

After you’ve been admitted to San Jac, follow these steps to prepare for your program. By the way, if you haven't applied to San Jac, you'll need to do that first.

If you have any questions or just want to talk to someone about the program,
 please reach out to us.
  1. Attend an Information Session

Before you apply to the program, you'll need to attend an information session. It’s a great opportunity to meet faculty and staff, ask important questions, and learn more about what the program has to offer.

Be sure to review our program standards ahead of the information session.

  2. Complete Prerequisite Courses

Before you can be accepted into the program, you’ll need to earn a grade of 'C' or higher in all prerequisite courses which includes:

    • BIOL 2404 or BIOL 2301/2101 and BIOL 2302/2102
    • HPRS 1201 (Intro to Health Prof.)
    • HRPS 1206 (Medical Terminology)
    • MATH 1332 or MATH 1314
    • ENGL 1301
While not required, the following courses can be used to help improve your application (grade 'C' or higher needed):
    • HPRS 2301 or BIOL 2320/2120
    • ENGL 2311 or ENGL 1302
    • PSYC 2301
    • Humanities / Fine Arts

  3. Improving Admission Success

Admission to the program is based on a points system. To give your application the best chance of success, we've created a scoring rubric. This tool will help you track your potential points as you prepare your application.

The minimum score required to apply is 14, but please note that meeting the minimum does not guarantee acceptance. The maximum possible score is 40.

Note: You do not need to submit the rubric with your application. It will be officially completed by a member of the admissions team after the application period has closed.

  4. Health Care Related Experience

If you have health-related medical field experience for at least one year, print out this form and have your supervisor verify your experience for your program application.

Please be sure to upload the completed and signed Verification (VOE) form as part of your application

  5. Apply to the Surgical Technology Program

For the fall semester, the application opens on April 1 and closes on June 1. For the spring semester, the application opens September 1 and closes on October 20.

Take advantage of your chance to apply! Please note that you will need your student ID
    login to access the application.
