The Associate of Applied Science degree is a career path for persons who have completed the Medical Assisting certificate program. The 60 credit hour degree is designed to meet continuing education goals, transfer into four-year university health care administration or allied health programs, and to attain possible promotion from entry-level to advanced-level clinical positions.

What is Medical Assisting?

Medical assisting combines clinical and administrative healthcare skills. Medical assistants support patients, physicians, and healthcare teams by handling both office and clinical responsibilities, helping healthcare facilities run smoothly and provide quality patient care.

What will I learn in this program?

You’ll learn how to record vital signs, prepare patients for exams, collect lab specimens, manage medical records, schedule appointments, and assist with office procedures. You’ll also build communication, medical terminology, and healthcare technology skills.

Is this program hands-on?

Yes. The program includes hands-on clinical training that helps you practice the skills used in real healthcare settings.

Can I start with a certificate and continue toward a degree?

Yes. You can begin with the Medical Assisting Certificate of Technology and continue into the Health Science Medical Assisting Pathway AAS degree. The AAS degree is designed for students who want to continue their education, transfer into related bachelor’s degree programs, or pursue advanced clinical opportunities.
